Payroll management and process improvement require professional expertise

Two payroll specialists at Linde, a leading industrial gas company, retired almost simultaneously from the payroll department.

“We no longer had in-house payroll expertise, and at the same time, Linde was outsourcing other functions. Payroll wasn’t part of Linde’s core operations,” explains Mika Talvio, Linde’s HR Manager.

Talvio notes that it made sense to have a payroll specialist, whose core business is payroll management, take over the function. These were the main reasons Linde outsourced its payroll operations to Silta in the fall of 2009.

"When professionals handle payroll, they also develop the processes professionally,” Talvio adds. The partnership has also led to improved quality.

“Payroll operations have progressed as we wanted. With Silta’s help, Linde now has an electronic archive, time tracking, and the Simo mobile app, which provides employees with real-time access to key payroll information. Paper payslips are now a thing of the past."

Linde and Silta are now streamlining communication

Manual updates to payroll data will soon be a thing of the past. The companies have launched a project to develop an interface between Linde’s HR system and Silta’s payroll system, says Mika Talvio, HR Manager at Linde.

Previously, when a Linde employee received a pay raise, Talvio would email Silta to update the information. Soon, there will be no need for emails.

Talvio also highlights that the partnership with Silta has been running smoothly and effectively.
